    Article Primeval Stronghold (Playsession Report)

I find Deed ending up in my SB more and more often now. It's sad, since I love the card, but its best days are behind it.

    Card/Deck Green Aggro

Sure, but an even distribution isn't an end in itself; it's only useful in as far as it makes the overall draft/play experience better. In practice, a guy scraping to put a X/G aggro deck together isn't going to be glad that an abstract ideal of colour balance is being maintained, he's going to...

    Card/Deck Green Aggro

There was a guy on MTGS who kept Lions over Militant on the grounds that he didn't want to upset his colour balance and green aggro wasn't a supported theme in his Cube anyway. It's just baffling how people can think like that.

I can quite easily imagine Mike Flores being a 'respected' figure in other subcultures, and he is a laughing stock in Magic among people who aren't his friends. Phil Hellmuth and Daniel Negreanu are somehow poker icons, after all.

    Card/Deck Green Aggro

Some changes I made in my Cube that incidentally let green aggro become viable: - Savannah Lions/Elite Vanguard + 2 Dryad Militant - Llanowar Elves/Fyndhorn Elves/Avacyn's Pilgrim + 2 Noble Hierarch +1 Deathrite Shaman +3 Burning-Tree Emissary

Do those problems occur at the highest levels of competition though? In Magic at least, you find the most jerks among very casual players or mid-level PTQ regulars; the game's best are generally a good crowd, from what I can tell. LoL has problems because any asshole with an internet connection...

That seems to be a big part of why a lot of the most skilled players prefer Limited. It's a lot harder to 'solve' a matchup where the decks are singleton (or close to it); and even if you come close, the matchup never really repeats itself.

If you thought that was bad, wait until Reid (probably) beats the tar out of the T4 with Hexproof in Modern this morning.

    General The Idiosyncratic Component Obession

Vintage has been largely self-sustaining for over a decade now, although banning/unbanning decisions always prove controversial and important so idk how they would be handled if WotC cut that cord completely.

General Variance as a format(cube vs draft)

A big factor is the lack of 'bad' cards in Cube making it easier to hit 22-24 playables and switch archetypes mid-draft, considerably reducing variance.

^yeah, that. It's like it was designed by impatient EDH players.

The sad part is that Magic isn't even that bad as far as competitive prize money goes (at least at the PT level); see chess, Scrabble, etc.

Renounce seems far too narrow. Old Man is fine I guess. It's not a card I'm aching to put in my Cube. Shadowborn Demon seems good but I can't imagine picking it over a Shriekmaw. idk how reliably you can meet the 6 creature requirement even if you have a creature-heavy black section...

    General The Idiosyncratic Component Obession

I agree with the OP completely, but as Jason said there's something about actually holding physical cards - and something that feels 'off' about proxies - that makes the otherwise inexplicable ritual quest to track down cards every set release feel sensible.

    General The Constructed thread

It's not good if you're actually in those colours. It's especially bad for something like Twin, where paying 3 life instead of 1 to get your third R for Kiki or w/e might actually matter.
