That's a nice list! I can see a bunch of archetype support in there, and all of those cards present interesting choices to the player.

I've been taking an inventory of simple instant speed combat tricks, and here's a fun little low powered boon cycle. Blue doesn't quite keep up with the pack, but it's still neat. Piercing Light Rookie Mistake Disfigure Shock Blossoming Defense

General Innistrad: Double Feature -- A Double Whammy

Agreed; removing the color doesn't make for a compelling product. I think they would have been smarter to simply release the same exact cards in regular color and let the combined draft environment sell the product.

    Simplicity Cube

I overhauled my Beginner Cube. My concept has been to put the focus on the combat phase in the style of retail draft. This entails providing every color with viable instant speed combat tricks of various types: creatures can be damaged, pumped, shrunk, rescued, bounced, untapped, or flash...

    Sets (VOW) Crimson Vow

After a slow start to the spoilers, this set is pulling its weight. Even without any interest in double sided cards, there's enough here for me to put in a singles order that will be fun to add to the collection.

    General Secret Lair Spoilers

I wouldn't call paper standard cheap. Decks are about $100-$400 for a competitive one, and I would compare that to around $50 for a board game. But $50 is enough to play some good kitchen table MTG, so it can compare to a board game. So yeah, most cards are cheap. Tournament players, commander...

    Sets (VOW) Crimson Vow

What can the new token in the food/clue/treasure family be? That trio already represents the three most basic units of currency in MTG. Branching out a bit, though, there are some other interesting benefits that a cracked artifact token could grant: Put a +1/+1 token on target creature Target...

    Triple Khans Cube

You're getting me interested in set cubes. Thanks for talking through some of your methodology and intent. I'd really like to see what the RTL community would come up with on a community effort to remaster a set or block.

Pushed mythics are nonsense. Being able to ignore them is a nice benefit of cube.

General (AFR) Dungeons and Dragons: Adventures in the Forgotten Realms Testing/Includes Thread

I've been playing a bunch of games on Arena, including a few drafts and a bunch of gold grinding in Standard 2022 (mostly goblins and GW life). My champion: Battle Cry Goblin The previous discussion underestimates this card. It gives me lots of agency, and I like the power level of its ability...

Sets (AFR) Adventures in the Forgotten Realms Previews- Dripping with Flavor, and Excess Words!

This is interesting. No extraneous keywords, and this could be a strong card to anchor for some Bant blink and flash stuff. And similar to the white 4/4, I like to see an occasional blue threat of this size that doesn't fly.

Sweet. It's hard to come up with white creatures with decent size that don't fly, so I like this new 4/4.

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Re:sacrifice, I've been tinkering with a Mardu triangle archetype that is something like RB sacrifice + BW weenie recursion + RW artifacts. The latter sounds out of place, but artifacts can do weenie recursion and sacrifice stuff, and black has some artifact stuff to bring to the mix. I think...

Sets (AFR) Adventures in the Forgotten Realms Previews- Dripping with Flavor, and Excess Words!

I want to rave about this design for a minute. 1) The ETB effect is less oppressive than Ravenous Chupacabra or similar, because you have to spend a bunch of mana to repeatedly kill creatures with it via blink/recursion. 2) The power of the ETB relative to the size of the body is more to my...

Sets (AFR) Adventures in the Forgotten Realms Previews- Dripping with Flavor, and Excess Words!

Gelatinous Cube is a really clever design. Nicely interactive. I also like Dawnbringer Cleric as a handy utility card. Red artifacts are getting some handy pieces these days. I like Dueling Rapier and Plundering Barbarian as cards that can support that theme but also slot into other decks.

Hmmm. Now that some of the flavor text lands have art that I like, I feel conflicted.

    General The Fixing and I

I've thought a bit on the problem of designing a mana base that promotes consistent 2-3 color decks without incentivizing 4-5 color good stuff decks. This is, of course, a subjective design goal. One solution is to include dual land vouchers in the draft, and specifically each voucher would...
