Kappa Cannoneer absolutely does trigger itself! Soul Warden says "whenever another creature enters the battlefield", emphasis mine. The Kappa lacks the "another" qualifier, so when it etb's, it sees an artifact entering the battlefield. See also this Cranial Insertion for confirmation from an...

Personally I like to stick to their patterns to make my own designs feel more authentic, but we're making custom cards, so we can do whatever we want :) Just for comparison, I'll throw out Borrowed Hostility, which somehow is the only official card (I can find) that comes close to your design...

No, I decided to stop playing around Christmas iirc. Eventually I find all games with daily quests wear on me and sooner or later my desire to do other stuff starts to outweigh the joy I get from grinding those daily quests.

If you find that going first is an even bigger advantage than usual, you could borrow from Hearthstone and give the player going second a free Treasure token.

So, a creature "gets +2/+2", but "gains trample and hexproof". See, e.g., Whirling Strike. Edit: I tried it out, and this fits nicely (and uses the correct reminder text, which also happens to be shorter :) ): Choose two {-} • Target creature gets +2/+2 until end of turn. • Target creature...

The point was not so much "see, Pauper uses common lands", the point was "holy shit, most common lands are used in Pauper" :) Personally I don't think it's cheesy to bring up Pauper either in this context, because it is in fact an officially supported format, and a reasonably popular one at...

I believe Modin meant that many of the other options available to WU are toxic, Blink being one of the few non-toxic ones.

Obviously, but I was just surprised how freaking many actually see play. It's wild that they still come up with new ideas suitable for commons that add to the mix, rather than replace previous designs. Obviously that does happen some of the time, but not as often as I had expected.

Control, flyers, artifacts, I do think there's enough to choose from, actually, but people like blink!

You can do that, but the reason it's often considered a {w/u} theme is because it has historically been widely supported in that exact color combination, and in both colors at that.

Not every single card in every cycle will see play, but if you're looking at the playability of cycles that way, you're being pedantic anyway imho. If you instead look at how many of the cycles and individual designs were adopted in Pauper at some point in their life cycle, I'ld say your...

You would think that, but I assure you it does work. I used this trick in Peasant a long, long time ago, crafting a deck around Dreams of the Dead and unearth creatures. It's an unintuitive rule, but the crux is that while the text on the card makes it sound like it always replaces leaving the...

I’ll say that even I was surprised at how many of the common lands see play. There’s really only a couple of complete misses, and they are few and far between. Also, Like Mown pointed out, some of the ones that didn’t get to see play in Pauper actually got played in other formats, so there’s...

That's a bold demand you make Velrun! I mean, there's only 200 lands to go over, so... I'm definitely ignoring the commander-specific cards and other weird stuff like Cryptic Spires. It's been an age since I played Pauper, but there are resources I can consult to shore up my knowledge ;) And...

Add in a dash of (non-repeatable?) proliferate, so the number of poison counters you're safe at is not deterministic and you have the trappings of a cool format? You might also want a mono-color section just to entice the players a little bit more. Kill most creatures with Go for the Throat...

I don't disagree with that particular point, I was just questioning what WotC would stand to gain by including additional drawbacks on taplands. Of course you take the bad fixing if there's no decent fixing available, but why wouldn't WotC include decent fixing?

Fair, sorry for misinterpreting your post! I couldn't see a format where tapped poison duals would be a warranted downgrade to simple taplands, so I didn't even consider that interpretation  I do think WotC has come far enough with their (un)common duals that we are never going to see the...
