Rob's unpowered cube - with primer

How's Otherworldly Journey? It's a card I saw do good work in Modern Masters, but haven't seen much of elsewhere. Centaur Courser..? Tell me that's a typo. Were Brimaz and Courser of Kruphix too midrangy and/or hard to deal with? That is a lot of two-drop walls in green. Has anyone ever...

    Sets [CNS] Conspiracy Spoilers

Yeah, it's definitely better that this set exists than if it didn't. I mean, we can all then pick and choose which cards we think are appropriate for our own cube environments. It's all too easy to jump on the Haterade bandwagon, but sometimes it's good to tuck the cynicism away for a minute and...

General May 18 Cube - Eric's Draft Recap

Solid! I love having another perspective on things. I guess it's pretty clear that B/R or B/R/g were the decks to go into from my seat, with either aggro or midrange as viable options. I only realize now after reading your critique that I could've actually had a decent B/R/g manabase, with three...

    Sets [CNS] Conspiracy Spoilers

Yeah, the more gimmicky face-up artifact creatures seem like just that - gimmicks. I'm not sure I want to turn the drafting portion of cube into Mario Kart, replete with banana peels and unavoidable blue shells. I'm more optimistic for the conspiracy and hidden agenda cards that affect...

    General Color matters / devotion

Well, you have to remember that every cube is its own draft format, and is self-contained. You can make up whatever wacky house rules you want for the cube contents, the structure of the draft itself, and the deck construction, and only the eight people at the table have to adapt to that...

General May 18 Cube - Eric's Draft Recap

I think this just about sums up why I could never run Birthing Pod in my own list. While double Kitchen Finks and double Shriekmaw don't impact the metagame too much in Jason's cube, they would throw the balance out of whack in mine. I feel like Jason's list has enough powerful stuff going on...

General May 18 Cube - Eric's Draft Recap

I didn't get to play any games during the draft. But I might as well get some use out of that $50 draft recap button that Jason commissioned on drafts.in. Jonas did this for us a few months back, and I had a hoot reading through it, so I figure I would pitch in this time. So here it is, the...

    General May 18th Draft Decks

Sweet, a Calvin rebuild! I usually ask him to fix my decks in real life, anyways, so it's awesome that he now renders his services online.

    General Planeswalker Density

CubeTutor says I'm at 17/383. Stealing an idea from Calvin, I've shifted most of my planeswalkers over to gold. I still run some monocolour ones, but I've made a conscious effort to force drafters to splash if they want to unlock this form of reusable card advantage. At the moment I have...

    Article ChannelFireball: Utility Land Draft

Is this actually true? I thought I saw three Gravecrawlers, two Carrion Feeders, and two Bloodghasts during the weekend draft.

    Sets [CNS] Conspiracy Spoilers

Do what I do when someone is waffling over a utility land pick: call out the name of the next drafter, so that someone is literally breathing down their neck, with the possibility of snapping up their prized land from right under them. Works every time.

I guess I'm not seeing it. Is this not just an inferior Volrath's Stronghold nearly all of the time...?

    Card/Deck Humans

I run three Champions, and one of each of the other cards. But I could see making a case for doubling up on Mayor and Xathrid Necromancer. They're both solid cards even without amassing a bevy of humans. I've seen Mayor churn out a crapton of werewolves on his backside, and the Necromancer is a...

    Card/Deck Humans

I think I've seen nearly every colour combination for humans except blue here, actually. WB, WR, Naya, and Junk. The latter two have gone 3-0. There's always fun tricks to pull off: Ranger of Eos Mikaeus, the Lunarch Champion of the Parish Noble Hierarch The most powerful human: Mirror...

    Card/Deck Bonfire of the Damned

In my experience, the card just endlessly tables. Not a lot of decks are interested in this effect. With two or three Brainstorms, I suspect there could be more powerful things a blue control deck wants to do.

    Card/Deck Bonfire of the Damned

Eh, possibly. I think I'd want two Brainstorms minimum. Even then, the ceiling is so much lower on this card than on an Entreat.
