I'm not really sure what card prices are anymore. My best guesses for most expensive:

I can't really think of a white card a control deck would want to play that wasn't a removal spell, wrath or walker, since the difference between which generic 6 mana creature you use to finish the game means bugger all.

A lot of white's control cards get dangerously close to midrange. But the distinction is sotra arbitrary anyways...

The only problem is that those deck end up playing and feeling like midrange decks, which brings us back around to that good stuff problem. Control decks shouldn't be about generating raw value, they should be about devaluing an opponent's card through actual card advantage and through virtual card advantage.

I agree on this distinction. A control deck shouldn't be able to win a top deck war like a midrange deck can. Are there white cards that help generate CA and locks down the game then that is probably better suggestions than raw power.
Maybe stuff like tappers isn't that bad of an idea? Oor are they to mana consumptive?

Probably not something worth building a deck around, but they're a decent tool
Actual tappers are nice since they play nicely in aggro as well to stop blocking. Control decks want them more on noncreature spells (Icy Manipulator, Maze of Ith, Martial Law), since that pressures your opponent into overcomitting into a wrath, but those tend not to play as well in an aggro deck as they're more expensive (and you'd rather be hellridering)
Lawkeeper and his functional-reprint buddy are pretty swell in peasant, and they do indeed do double duty for control and aggro, which i like.

Traditionally, all white offers control is efficient answers. There are no card draw mechanisims like in blue, black (or even red now), and it offers nothing in terms of disruption outside of removal.
It does have exile effects, which are somewhat important, and all of the enchantment removal means there could maybe be an enchantment based control deck?

I've also noticed that there's a biiiiiiiig pile of cards I'm running worth about 30$: Baneslayer Angel, Garruk Relentless, Vendilion Clique, Vengevine, etc. Most of these are foil mythics from standard enviornments past, that aren't really modern powerhouses.

Its become arguably the best card in modern, hence the price jump.
I should either start playing Modern again or sell some cards.
I would add:
He adds solid value to control spells, and can actually be used in multiple archetypes - with the right mix, even aggro. The monk tokens are a real threat on defense if you have any mana up -- attacking you becomes riskier.
