General Decks that have 3-0'd your cube

The winning list was piloted by a guy who used to jam every seven drop he could find into all of his cube decks. Knowing this, one time I Stone Rained him to keep him off his seventh land drop, leaving him stuck at six for the remainder of the game. When I asked if his three cards in hand were all seven drops, he suspiciously said "No....". After the game, he would reveal a grip of Sheoldred, Martial Coup, and Elesh Norn.

Since that point, he's come around, and has been aggressively axing fives, sixes, and sevens from his decks. He could've run Reveillark or Sun Titan in the deck above, but chose not to. He's gone as far as 'assisting' his wife by excising all the fatties from her green ramp decks (!), which left me aghast, as the three of us were on the same team this past draft.

Still, I'm proud of his newfound discipline.

jesus that's a lot of 3s

Yeah, this came up during our team deckbuilding. I think his plan was to tick Aether Vial to three and leave it there. I don't know that it was the most sound of plans.

Then again, I didn't win a match on the night, so I really shouldn't be one to talk.

Half those 3's can't be Vialed into play...

the main flaw is that the deck cube has an AEther Vial.

Building a strong BWx deck is really tough due to a concentration of 3's, we're still trying to figure out how to make a good GWB deck in my Cube. I think it's tied to the awkward curve of 2's and 3's and a color-intensiveness that necessitates wasted picks on mana or tough-to-cast dudes, but, who knows.

Here's an interesting exercise: rank the wedges and shards in order of your cube's playability, see what other people did, and triangulate from there. in descending order of awesome

In Too Deep

So who knew Drogskol Reaver is absolutely a card? God was I ever next to one BG drafter while there was a third one later in the table but 4x packs of 11 came to my rescue where I got enough 1-3 picks to force things to work while it was apparent no one was taking blue draw or mana fixing.

My guys were going to value town. Threw so many creatures under the bus in hopes of accruing enough eventual value or some really nasty little combo that would lead to an eventual win. In too deep is a reference to not only the dumb synergy and daunting decision making but also the fact you pretty much always felt like you were playing from behind.

Sideboard absolute hero was this guy:

Plays of the day:
  • Bryan killed Eric in a UR tempo mirror (LOL) by sticking a Guttersnipe and countering too many of Eric's spells.
  • I'd love to say I had any plays of the day but serious every thing this deck did was some kinda janky play. I think my plays I felt best about were when I would successfully think around a Deathrite Shaman or Scavenging Ooze despite my utter lack of removal. Incidental graveyard disruption really hurts bros.
  • Getting killed by overruns in two games was probably my highlight.

i don't really know how to do this with heavily erratted cards so this won't entirely convey what is going on (ex gravecrawler is a zombie cleric and xathrid necromancer is also rotlung reanimator) but

edit: if you're properly curious i put up a card image gallery linked here
http://riptidelab.com/forum/threads/break-the-rules-cube.357/
art is missing on a lot of cards atm because this was sort of a playtest.
i had so much fun seeing stuff i helped design and/or modify get drafted. you can probably tell by just looking at this decklist but there was a ton of influence from just the atmosphere here, lucre + chris taylors custom cards, jason and cml's articles/posts. and also the scuttlemutt idea (even though the card itself isn't being run). i really think this is doing something weird and unique though with kind of a bizarre eventide + time spiral feel

this pile, i am proud to say, effortlessly housed the "nut reanimator" deck in the power cube that was also drafted here yesterday

I only saw it on the table once. It went something like this:

"Swing, gain 4, damage."
"Okay, I take 4."
"No, lifegain triggers first. I'm at 20 now. Take 8."
"Sadface."
