Sets [DTK] Dragons of Tarkir Spoilers Thread

This looks halfway decent as a Cloudgoat Ranger-style card in black that requires a little more work. He plays really well with Gravecrawlers! Even moreso than the weird zombie lord in this set.

A little unfortunate that he's the same casting cost as Sidisi, Undead Vizier, but I suppose they go into different decks. And black doesn't really have great five drops, other than Gray Merchant.

I cant remember exactly who mentioned in the skype chat earlier today that he was missing some black controly five-drops, and this seems like a step in the right directions. (along with sidisi)

I sorta prefer good blockers to good attackers in black so that cat demon sorta interests me. It does seem kinda complicated to have something to exploit, but even control decks now usually play a tonne of creatures.

So many draw on death triggers in this block it's nuts!

Foul Renewal is probably my fave pet card so far, but I think Dragonlord Sulimgar is my fave card with Kolaghans Command and Atarka sneaking in.

Aww, why couldn't this guy be any spell! Heck even have it be Miscalculation! I'm sure my friend will love this for his peasant cube though.

This cards ability may only happen once in a Blue moon, but the art is awesome so goodbye Savannah Lions!

This set has turned out to be awesome as fuck.

True, sometimes all you need is a blue shock! Being able to trade with X/2's that have already resolved is pretty awesome. Would have been good in my draft today.

This set is such a letdown, as far as themes/art/card names go, compared to KTK. Now that we've seen DTK, our set cube for this block is definitely going to be KTK-based or KTK/FRF-based. A lotta the megamorphs are neat but this set seems better for cherrypicking than for drafting as-is.

I am completely in agreement. I looked at a visual spoiler, and it was just a bright shiny page covered in colors and fire and dragons and shit. It really put me off. Made me wanna scrap my cube and just build a cube out of cards I like, with Brushwagg and terrible legendary creatures.

Yeah, as far as Cube goes, I'm not all that impressed by this set. KTK and FRF were way better.

I am really happy for my Prossh Dragon Tribal EDH where I just Dragonstorm whenever I can. MOAR DARGONZ

I'm not much of a dragons guy, so I don't really dig the set's overarching theme. I also thought the flavor of the clans was way stronger in KTK, like they had more of an identity. Here the clans are supposed to be ally colors, but there's hardly any gold cards, except for a few dragons and the commands. A pity. The alternate timeline theme is executed very well though, with lots of throwbacks to the previous two sets. I especially likeTormenting Voice.

On an individual level there are lots of cards that seem interesting for cube. Just because the last batch of commons and uncommons doesn't really deliver much, doesn't mean the previously spoiled rares suddenly aren't there. I always have to remind myself when skimming over the good cards I already know in the full spoiler, that those good cards are still there. it's easy to dismiss the set as lackluster based on the feeling of checking out the bad part of the full spoiler.

I think it'll be sweet for Limited and there are some cool Constructed cards, but I think I only counted like 5 or 6 cards I actually want to run in my Cube. Two of those are red one-drops.

I count 19 I am planning to add, and more I find interesting but can't find a cut for. Then there's some more interesting cards that I can't play because I don't support the colors.

Depends whom you mean by "you guys". This set does have a good density of cube picks, but at the C/U end, when you're drafting DTK/DTK/FRF or doing a set cube, it looks a lot smellier than the previous two sets. Khans really knocked it out of the park in C/U land.

I think as far as 3 set blocks go, this was a good one all the way through. Personally, I love dragons, but I won't let my bias cloud my judgement. The truth is that this set looks fine for draft but nowhere near as good as khans. Where khans was a 5/5 draft experience, this looks more like a 3/5, MAYBE a 4? Obviously I think this just further proves that moving from 3 sets per block down to 2 was a great idea. Flavorwise, the only thing that bugs me is the "no legendary Taigam" thing. How did they drop the ball so bad with that? -.-

Overall, the set is boasting big dragons, and big creatures to pair up with those dragons. Megamorph has a few great cards. Exploit does as well. Rebound was a disappointment. Formidable was as bad as predicted with the exception of Surrak. Bolster got maybe one or two decent cards for lower power environments. Dash got about the same amount of decent stuff as Exploit, just a lot less exciting/inspiring. Which brings me to my last point. Khans was inspiring. This set just isn't whatsoever. I do love the dragons, though. Thank god it doesn't look as awful to draft as AVR. I think that would have killed me in all the wrong ways.
