General Print this Wizards! (So I can put it in my cube)

How fair do you guys think making two intentionally fair cards into one might be?
I feel as if this may still be 3-4th pick on a fair day.

Do you guys also take life gain higher than usual when you know you are in black?

Whenever a player searches his or her library, choose one:
• Tap target permanent.
• Untap target permanent.
• Remove a counter from target permanent.
• Proliferate.

I was wanting a reward card for drafting lots of tutors in UB (see the blue-black thread) and came up with this. A little heavy-handed and shows my abhorrent obsession with modal cards, but you get the idea.

Re: Lucre, I used to not look for life gain cards while drafting black, then one night I accidentally made a Mardu suicide control deck, went 0-3, and now I do look for life gain when I play black. So yes.

What I decided on for my custom card submission

1W
Instant
Put a 2/2 vigilant knight token into play
Cycling 2
Flashback 2W

Too good to be true

How about a new ability, something like...

Apprehensive Thoughts {U/B}
Sorcery
Foreshadow (When you search your library for this card, copy it. You may choose new targets for the copies.)
Target player puts the top two cards of his or her library into his or her graveyard.
Draw a card.

Seer's Stag {2}{G}
Creature - Elk
Omen - When you search your library for this card, or when Seer's Stag enters the battlefield, scry 1, then gain 2 life.
3/2

Sage's Familiar {1}{U}{U}
Creature - Owl
Flying
Omen - When you search your library for this card or when Sage's Familiar enters the battlefield, you may search your library for an instant or sorcery card with converted mana cost 1 or less, reveal that card, and put it into your hand. If you do, shuffle your library.
1/3

i've voiced my thoughts on that type of mechanic before but:
I don't feel that we should be encouraging shuffling / searching. Shuffling is the "loading screen" of magic, it hurts flow, takes you out of the game. Using it must really strongly be worth the payoff. In some cases it can be, but it needs to be used very carefully in terms of design. In much the same way, overly encouraging tutoring can be detrimental to the surprise factor in games, and make games play the same every time.

These type of mechanics really feel like "doing it because we can", not because we should.

How about
BB
Menace, Deathtouch
2/1

I keep throwing money at the screen but nothing's happening!

Also, mostly because I want to use this name:

Burden of Eternity 1WW
Enchanted Creature is indestructible and can't attack or block
Enchanted creature has "At the beginning of your upkeep, you lose 1 life."

You figure in some sort of "White is evil" type set we could see this? I Love pillory of the sleepless but even though it's sweet it's not worth a multicolored slot since it's just a removal spell

Let me soup up that Menacing Deathtoucher a bit...
{U}{B}
Artifact Creature—Zombie Rogue
Menace, Deathtouch
At the beginning of each player's upkeep, that player reveals the top card of his or her library, loses life equal to the revealed card's converted mana cost, then puts that card into his or her hand.
2/1

...Too power-max?

Also
More Complicated Burden of Eternity {1}{W}{B}
Enchantment—Aura
Enchanted creature is indestructible, can't attack or block, and its activated abilities can't be activated.
Enchanted creature has "At the beginning of your upkeep, you lose 1 life."
{3}, pay 3 life: Exile enchanted creature. Any player may play this ability.

This one is probably worse? Idk I just like making variations of other people's card ideas.

Yeah I think the exile ability kinda defeats the idea of the card. Burden of Eternity, not Burden of Eh, when I get around to it. :p

I'm not sure UB is where I'd want a menace/deathtouch creature, not really the colors I think of when I imagine a card that can be blocked, but really punishes people for it (Feels a bit more RB to me)
I will say, if you want to do the howling mine thing, I'd go with the wording on Duskmantle Seer. Handing away a free card on a creature already so weak to removal seems rough, but if you go with seer's wording you at least break even on the exchange

Oh derp, I was going for the Duskmantle effect and just misquoted it.

Hmm, an RB menacing deathtoucher you say?

Tymaret's Vanguard {B}{R}
Creature—Zombie Warrior
Menace, Deathtouch
When Tymaret's Vanguard is dealt damage, it deals that much damage to you.
Whenever Tymaret's Vanguard deals combat damage to a player, you may sacrifice it. If you do, each creature gets -1/-1 until end of turn.
Unearth {2}{B}{R}
2/1

MUWAHAHAHA resolve THAT combat step, Mike Flores!

EDIT: wow i just realized the pyroclasm effect would kill the whole board because deathtouch. *Ahem* abilities changed to be not totally broken.

I mean, they don't HAVE to block it... :rolleyes:
But yeah the unearth rider might be a bit much. Maybe if it cost like 7 to unearth? For some reason unearth just really feels right to me on a punisher guy that has more than two decision paths... Like, maybe you or your opponent misplay the mini-game this guy creates the first time around, so you both get a second chance to play optimally? Or something? It just feels right.

could this be fixed by kinda avoiding tutors and using "when CARDNAME is revealed, do x"? Like cards that trigger with Commune with Nature. Of course this would cascade into a lot of fixes like removing thoughtseize for being too weak and so on, but maybe it's a start.
