Sets Shadows over Innistrad Spoilers Thread

normally I would but when they get drafted is also important info.
I like the Shamizy method of setting new cards aside, making packs, and seeding them with new cards at the end. Keeps things random, gives you pick orders and possibly playtest data, and only skews the draft slightly (depending on how large your test pool is). Just a thought! :)

New spoilers are up. Planeswalker, not-vindicate and a really wild sorcery/creature flip.

Nahiri looks excellent. 4 Mana for card advantage, removal (if situational, but that doesn't stop gideon jura from being playable) and a legitimately powerful ultimate? She will be replacing Ajani Vengeant in my cube for sure.

Loving Startled awake as a card. It's nice to see another mirror-mad phantasm effect. Hey, if this keeps up, mill could have some really solid bombs that aren't boring AF like glimpse the unthinkable. It's almost enough to make me consider trying out mill in cube...

Some other stuff spoiled too, including a Final Judgment 2: the Angeling. And this:

I think Mortify found it's exit in my cube. Anguished Unmaking was exactly what Utter End needed to be to be awesome imo. 3 is so much more flexible in usage than 4, and the downside isn't horrendous.

Nahiri seems to be pretty bonkers? Kinda like the filtering of Daretti, but with Excoriate++ strapped on as the minus, and Chord for Tinker as the Ult? Yes please. Now, is it tooooo good? My RW section seems to be dying for something interesting so I hope not! I feel like I'll have to test her out regardless. Probably in place of Boros Reckoner.

The cube I'm currently working on (I've been doing a lot of testing btw, I'll update my thread/make a new one with results sooner rather than later hopefully) is legacy cube power level, so I'm amped to jam Nahiri right in. She seems to fit perfectly. She just seems like a great value pick for PW control, a good card for reanimator, etc...

I already have Vindicate in my cube, but I may remove Utter End for Anguished Unmaking. In fact, I probably will. It would be a diff. story if Utter End could exile lands, but hey.

Nahiri seems ok . Ajani V. is probably the better card, but that's not necessarily a selling point. Her design is a little dull and mechanics seem pretty random. Reminds me of Demon-form Ob-Nix. Very playable, I'm just not sure why I want to run it.

For a second I thought sinister concoction would be a good seal of doom replacement, but then I saw "Discard a card" in there and that makes it pretty narrow.

There's definitely interesting stuff in this set. I'm still wondering if/how to factor delirium. Some of those cards might be interesting, but they also might be complete duds. Not sure.

I think Nahiri's problem is that the ultimate doesn't necessarily do very much in RW. If the ultimate was near game-ending, then the opponent would have to attack her and she would do a good Gideon Jura impression. Instead, ticking Nahiri up isn't much of a threat.

looting in r/w. starts at 6 hp which is decent with plus twos. i think its a better toolbox for aggro and the ultimate in some control build

ajani vengeant doesnt tap the creature tho to have a good protection ability im not a fan

Kudos for making it exile so I won't need to answer the question of weather creatures that die to the spell count for delerium (No)

I dunno, but if given the choice I wouldn't want my opponent to search their deck for a creature and slam it into play at no cost, nor would I want to give my opponent the leverage of finding something to tap down my artifacts or creatures and minus her for consecutive turns. Maybe in a cube with no top-end threats I could see her being just 'eh,' but even something as simple as jamming in blade splicer can represent a large amount of value (with essentially 2 ETB effects), to say nothing of Mulldrifter, etc.

Being able to kill untapped creatures is a big deal. Ajani represents a lot of damage to the face, either by killing blockers or just burning directly. He can still lock down big stuff or play Rishadan Port when that's appropriate. He's an aggro powerhouse and the lifegain makes him almost as good against aggro as he is in it. He pressures opposing planeswalkers too. Nahiri's got a ton of loyalty and kills enchantments, but she just doesn't dominate matchups like Ajani does. Sometimes waiting for a creature to attack to kill it is just too slow. No Mercy isn't exactly a stellar card. Obviously sometimes Nahiri's abilities are better then Ajani's, but overall I'd prefer Ajani in basically any "life total matters" matchup, which in my cube is the vast majority.

Ajani is too good for most cubes around here, imo. Nahiri being weaker but way more interesting (imo) is all upside. Now she falls in the power range I need, and she supports things that aren't as well supported already as "RW aggro" and "RWx control".

I don't think Nahiri is gonna unseat Ajani V for me. His abilities just make me much happier, and he feels a lot more removeable than Nahiri; pile-o-loyalty walkers trouble me, and her abilities don't seem to fit thematically with what the pair wants in my cube. Her first ability looks like a great {U}{B} (although it's more {U}{R}, I just mean it's an ability I'd rather see on a walker in those colours), her second looks solidly {W}, and the last seems {G}{R} (barely just {U} as well I suppose, historically speaking). That lack of colour-sense also bothers me a good bit. I'm all for bends, but.. Eh.

edit: I would probably cube Nahiri if she was 5cmc or 6cmc, but at 4, it's just too much for me. She looks like she'll just get +2'd into infinity and ult, all while giving card selection power to boot.

Anguished Unmaking looks perfect. Will cube!

Sinister Concoction is tempting. Maybe if enchantress gets more popular? It's a great graveyard/delirium enabler.

Descend Upon the Sinful is very tempting, but I'm happy with where my wraths are for now.

Sinister Concoction is super cute, but I don't think BB, discard a card: Terminate is actually good, even if it is payable in installments

Don't think 6-mana wrath is OP.

Would be suuuper surprised if this new Boros Walker was better than Ajani, power-level wise. Looting is cool, but tapping down lands was backbreaking, and Helix on a 4-mana PW is great.

Why is this a mythic?
wolfofdevilsbreach.jpg

The name and art are pretty spectacular, but the power level of the card is just so mediocre...
Got to love the obligatory bulk red mythic.

If red didn't get bulk mythics constantly the public might realize that red is actually the most exciting colour these days

EDIT: Mark Rosewater just said on his tumblr that we're getting 4 planeswalkers this set.

Nahiri, Tamiyo, Dark!Jace (ugh I know), and Tibalt? Dare2dream, I know... It seems like we need a Sorin since SHOWDOWN w/ NAHIRI but I don't honestly know, this new planeswalker clusterfuck is a goddamn mess to keep up with for me

EDIT #2 (fuck): Except we're getting Wolfmother, so... Wolfmother, Nahiri, Tamiyo, and almost definitely NOT Tibalt (god dammit) since they'll want one of their poster children in the set

Unfortunately, I think it's probably gonna be along the lines of Wolfmother (love that, I'm stealing it), Jace, Sorin, Nahiri... Can't have a set without Jace, and Sorin kinda actually matters in this set. For once.
