Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

so in the "4 squadron hawks" or "3 demigod of revenges" vein i've been thinking of cards that you could give away in multiples.

here is a nice search http://magiccards.info/query?q=o:"named ~"&v=card&s=cname if you wanna do your own.

if you wanna waste even more time here is another sweet search parameter http://magiccards.info/query?q=o:named&v=card&s=cname

yet another one http://magiccards.info/query?q=o:name&v=card&s=cname

ideas:

4 hawks
3 demigods
4 accumulated knowledges
4 kindles / flame bursts
bogbrew witch, bubbling cauldron, and festering newt

moving onto a slightly different topic ("naming shit is fun"):

evil twin
liar’s pendulum
cursed scroll and magus of the scroll
vexing arcanix
aesthetic consultation
meddling mage
mise and predict

three dreams

Seems super narrow, combined with the fact that the flashback costs on a lot of these spells is absurd. Cool card, but I feel like it'd be a lot of work to pull it off, and all for a bit of a gimmick. You'd need to fill with affordable flashback targets like Lingering Souls and Deep Analysis. Also consider that, by the time you cast this (at the earliest), you'll have drawn 8 or 9 cards, so 20%+ of your deck is already gone, meaning you may have drawn some of your targets already.

Yeah, it wouldn't work (especially not since the 45-card deck experiment was a failure). I think I wanna try Lava Dart, though? Supposedly it was good in its Standard format, which tells us ... not a lot

sac theme --> t4 Sheoldred, Whispering One?

Speculation was mainly good in Constructed because you could double/triple up on whatever flashback spell was important e.g. Roar of the Wurm in grindy matchups in UG Madness, or Lava Dart in the sweet Speculation Storm deck.

Cathodion seems like a card that I'd include because it looks cool and end up seeing 15th pick a lot.

ugh @ Caleb Durward

Cathodion is best in unison with the Utility Land Draft:

I run him in the Eldrazi cube, where he's pretty sweet and does work.

Caleb is actually my favorite CFB contributor and the one I read the most, despite not actually playing Legacy myself.

Yeah pretty much me too. I find myself religiously watching LSV content, but then opening imgur and zoning out of the world. I guess I do the same with Caleb, but he plays a lot of neat decks.

I also don't remember reading any/many filler articles by him. You can always pick them out. It's the reason I wouldn't rate Conley Woods as a great magic writer, he just seems to write so many weird philosophical articles about magic in general. If he's writing about a brew it's great, cuz a Conley brew is a spicy brew, but I rarely see articles from him that look like they really contain any content.

Is this former Vintage staple a possible Cube card? It costs 4, yes, but a 4-drop that every colour has access to might take the place of multiple 4-drops across various colours. Your UB Tempo deck can play this just as easily as a red deck can.

edit: kicking around some more ideas

zur-able fun stuff

I have been running Predator Ooze for ages. Actually a really interesting card, and usually creates a kind of fun racing board state. In addition there are no shortage of answers for it throughout most cube environments (Pacifism, Dismember, Swords to Plowshares, etc).

I have Teferi in the cube. It is... ok.

Tusker seems like it could be better than non-green CC two-drops, simply because of mana elves, but is a 2-mana 3/3 what your green decks want? I know you love devotion, so maybe it is.

Tusker: only one way to find out ... I kind of liked Fleecemane Lion but my bitches didn't and Wadds convinced me to cut the bling gold sections somewhat. The thing is that BB and WW is doable, but RR is a little more restrictive and GG is the worst cuz it's the fixing color. Nylea needs a bit more of a push, though, and I love wacky cards like the Ooze (one of our team's finest moments was watching our boy beat Josh Cho's Ooze with our admittedly retarded Hellhole Flailer), so though it's worse than Messenger or whatever ...

Think I'm gonna go with +Threads +Temp Isolation

Chronicler of Heroes is now a thing in Standard, I feel like less of an imbecile for forecasting it as a possible Cube card in October.

Welcome aboard, Laz!

Chronicler of Heroes is not a thing in Standard or in Cube afaict

Teferi is sweet if you like flashing in Thassa or Master of Waves or that sort of thing.

obviously Undead Warchief is only up for debate if you're committed to Zombies, but it's a really nice hook for that archetype. The idea of playing 4/5 Gray Merchants for 4 mana is very appealing.

I kind of hate all those cards? Grey Merchant is a Zombie?

If I took out Trinket Mage would anybody care? I don't feel like I've wanted it in a deck in a long time.

I've never got trinket mage to work in any format and be good.

Undead warchief is more overrun than anthem, take that as you will.

Also fun fact: Grey Merchant is also a common. Common, Zombie, he says each opponent, this guy seems tangentially stupid for a bunch of side formats
