I definitely wouldn't call Demonic Tutor "interesting" but I feel it's necessary if you want to even halfheartedly support anything combo-like. I've recently gone up to two and one of the combo decks I purposefully put into the cube went off for the first time ever almost immediately after that.

But I'm a sucker for any 1-3 CMC cards that help combo and aggro won't touch.

Demonic Tutor's brokenness scales with that of whatever you're fetching; if you're able to Strip Mine or Tinker people, then obviously it's going to represent a significant threat by itself.

Sorcery speed was half of the awful restrictions, yo. Making them instants and removing the land count / creature count clauses makes some pretty slick cards. Oh well. Tower above's art is still hilarious.

Is Grim Tutor too iffy?

I feel like tutors will shine in environments where you've built with them in mind. I think it's a shame that there is such a difference between the high end and low end tutors without putting in design work and that for the most part card filtering is preferable to supporting tutors in most cubes (doubly because card filtering is such a rare ability outside of blue).

Has anyone played with Mirri the Cursed?
Do most people agree Caller of the Claw is closer to coming in than Fresh Meat?
I'm curious about whether anyone has made Tinker, Trash for Treasure and Goblin Welder into a normal fair deck.

Mirri the Cursed is a fine card, but it really feels more red than black.
Caller does seem less all in to me, easier to just play for value. But you need to get less beasts? I dunno

I have two Snap coming in the mail. I hope they're good. The idea is that they're "fine" in any deck and will combine with Rewind (currently a two-of) and Treachery (one coming in the mail) to eanble a deck with value storm or cards like Young Pyromancer or Talrand, Sky Summoner. I hope that works out, but I can't say for sure yet.

attrition is amazing and very strong with anything remotely recursive the only thing i dont like is the 'nonblack' clause

once in my old slow cube i evoked shriekmaw and sac'd it to attrition in resp to evoke trigger while i had out mikaeus, the unhallowed

Rewind is worse than Cancel. What is the Cube control deck gonna do with all that mana EOT, cast Mystical Teachings?

It has had a grand total of one play test so far -- and that was the single color mega sealed experiment in the other thread. But having said that, Rewind was just about the best card in that deck. The blue deck was weak in the early game, but then took the lead and started Rewinding just about anything the other guy played, and always had mana open for the second Rewind. Then would Archaeomancer the Rewind back, or Snapcaster, Rewind. In that particular game, they had managed to stick a Talrand (slow, I know, but the best option in mono-blue in my cube, would be better if there was some red in there, or any of the Karoo lands...), which made it all the better.

I mean, clearly its as dangerous as your black 3 drops on turn one, or 3C spells on turn two. Point stands, if I'm not jamming Obliterators, is it that bad? I am running hypie, which is a traditional turn 1 dark ritual play.

My gut says it isn't particularly dangerous. Very best case is probably a black 3-drop on turn 1. That seems pretty good if it is a Liliana, but that is very much best case.

Mirri's Guile is awesome, I run two. It's everything that's awesome about sylvan library, but you don't have to explain everything to someone on the off chance they also have batterskull out

it's a pretty bad card in fair contexts, i'd be worried more about a lack of power than anything else

i dont like it for cubes that aren't very built for unfair stuff because 99% of the time it'll be awful and the other 1% of the time it'll be ridiculous and super high variance is unfun

I mean, the thing I'm looking at it for are pumping out a pontiff of blight early, casting gary for 3 and general value. It also enables early phenax, bitblast, mogis, doomgape, and nath on colour, and I'm running blazing specter, hyppie, liliana and phyrexian arena that could be dangerous turn one/two blowouts. There's also some x spells, some big costs in green (that it would short circuit ramping to), some kickers (heyo, ritual into more replication tokens than you know what to do with), although I guess really that all falls into value.
