Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

It seems pretty mediocre in an environment where you aren't casting natural order/show and tell/tinker/channel. The situations where it is good (tag-teamed with tradewind rider/waterfront bouncer or whatever) don't seem fun.

I enjoy this card for what it usually does, but I hate that it combos infinitely with things. At the beginning of the last couple drafts I made a ground rule errata which was "no stupid infinite bullshit with Kiki-Jiki," but I'd rather just deal with it more appropriately. Perhaps swap him out for Splinter Twin and cut Pestermite? I def want to keep Restoration Angel in, which thankfully does not break Splinter Twin.

EDIT: ugh still combos with Zealous Conscripts. Whatever.

I cut him due to infinite combos but I'm tempted to put him back in. 2RRR for a 2/2 that requires a 4-5 mana creature to infinite with isn't the absolute worst thing I can think on. Dunno, I'm ok with people assembling goofy 3-card infinite combos (finks + sac outlet + Archangel/black Mike, Mirror Entity + Reveillark + Karmic Guide type stuff) but 2-cards is still a bit much.

For what it's worth I like Kiki more than Twin.

Twin is a wretched card unless you're comboing (and is ergo-t poison), Kiki-Jiki is really fun even if you don't have combos. One activation in the absence of Sky Hussar, Resto, Pestermite, Zealous Conscripts etc. usually doesn't justify the 2RRR. It's a tough card to play around and play with and play against and if people can combo with it they deserve it. I can see it not fitting into lower power Cubes but here Kiki is great fun.

How important is it to 'feel' white?

Good question. I guess the feel of things is somewhat flexible. Land destruction "feels" blue in my cube because its a pretty deep theme, but in most people's cubes cards like Mana vortex would probably seem out of place.

I think the more important thing about it is not "feeling" white (poor choice of words on my part), but rather if the effect contributes to an environment where playing white brings unique qualities to your deck.

When worded that way, it sounds ridiculous to think Javelineer could be offensive. I mean, its not going to feel like a red deck because I have one card that can do one damage once. If anything, its more like white's take on direct damage. Harms Way is probably the more offensive card if anything.

Or Mana Tithe.

Edit: Actually...

Is this worthy of doubling up? I know it's not really in white's part of the color pie, but it feels so good and satisfying in a white weenie deck!

I love it as a singleton. This doesn't really seem like a great doubling up candidate, and part of the fun is that people never really play around it. Often you sequence land drops (and spells) so that you "naturally" leave W open (and not U) and then catch them with a Tithe.

My best Tithe story:
>Playin' dat trash mtgo cube
>goin' white/black aggro but it's something terrible
>like really bad
>the baddest
>i guess i got lingering souls?
>face a dude playing some colours and blue
>dude tryna combo on turn 4 n shit
>wants to untap lands with his blue spells n shit
>wants to drop dat kozilek n shit
>wants to try to win n shit
>i got that one untapped plains n shit
>got that one card in hand n shit
> he taps out for perfect amount n shit
>and i respond w/ FUCK dat shit
>mana tithe was good that game
>mana tithe won me that game
>i wont forget that game
>it was a good game

And that's my classy story about why I like mana tithe.

Deathbringer Thoctar is one of those cards that would be way better if it was smaller. Make it a 1/1 for 3cmc and I'd happily play it alongside some gravecrawlers, blood artists, goblin bombardments, or basically anything red/black aggro would usually want to be playing in a good cube.

Its certainly a prime Sharpie target if I'm ever in the market for a new red/black card.

For those of you running lots of fetchlands I would definitely give this card a try.

Also, as part of my recent 'cut all the aggro cards and replace them with gold cards' kick, I've been liking:
