Sets (WOE) Wilds of Eldraine Spoilers

~Princess flies on Horseback

I: Exile up to one target creature.

II: Target creature you control gets +2/+2 and gains flying until end of turn.

III: Return the exiled card to the battlefield under its owner’s control

That's a really interesting card. It can be the final one-two punch in an aggressive curve out, where they don't live to get there creature back. It can be a really slow blink or save from aura-based removal with some jump-pump attached. It can of course be sacrificed or bounced itself o they never get their thing back.

I hope we'll get multiple sweet sagas like this, where you want to prevent the last chapter from happening. That could turn Demonic Pact into a bigger theme.

I love this. :)
I mean at least I did :p

These are interesting directions to take adventures. The adventure is mostly fine as a card on it's own, and gives you an impactful enchantment for lategame. Slightly wary in that both adventures once they're in exile and enchantments are both notoriously hard to interact with, but we're also EXTREMELY far from debtor's knell being an unbeatable bomb.

Fucking love it, 10/10.

Oh hey we got another undying evil with set's mechanic! Slightly better than feign death?

Is this the best Claustrophobia we've ever had? I've run Narcolepsy before, and while serviceable, not doing anything the turn you played it was always annoying.

I mean this is still probably worse than Skyclave Apparition, but flash is a sick ability to add to Fiend Hunter

I currently run both a token deck (which is the obvious use case for this card) and I'm brainstorming a "card types among permanents you control" style deck, which provides the more "fair" use case of "Well my deck is basically all permanents, and some number of them are un doom-bladeable, so I'm sure this'll be alright"

This actually looks sick. I love this.

Werefox Bodyguard is honestly pretty sick because it's both a Fiend Hunter with flash and a way to protect your own creatures (flash it in in response to a removal spell, flicker the target, sac it for life and to bring the target back).

Well, I had to cut it from my Ravnica Block cube because it was indeed unbeatable. And it is still a very potent finisher in my regular cube. Getting a slightly worse Last Gasp attached to it is kinda disgusting.

OH BOY, I love it too. This one, i actually wouldn't mind to be a little more pushed. maybe costing 1? i wonder if it is good enough as it stands even in lower power levels, but I will for sure try it out.

This is Ravnica's 9th district, right?
Isn't the pitch for this cube "It's magic from 2006"?
IE we are quite far from what that cube is trying to do, explicitly because you're making something to return to it?

I was not expecting to get enthusiastic about this set but I am legitimately considering getting a box to draft with my SO and some of their MtG playing friends. Just like OG Eldraine, has the mechanical complexity at a level where it's interesting without being punishing and is hitting it out of the park on flavour.

I'm liking the look of Return Triumphant, shame there aren't more enchantresses/constellation creatures that pop off with that free enchantment coming along with. Setessian Champion or Calix are probably the best targets, but anything hasty is decent too. It and the Virtuous role in the commander product are enough for me to start thinking about revisiting how I'm doing aggro enchantress. The full arts are also among my favourites for that recent trend.

Honestly? Giving green another 6-drop isn't necessary (it's why I'm not running the very potent and playable Generous Ent) but this is yet another way to give a flexible Naturalize to the players without making it feel bad when there's not enough targets. I don't love having so much of green's naturalize effects on creatures be attached as an ETB or part of a sacrifice effect, even if those are the most logical ways to do it in most sets. Gotta love Adventures!!

No, that's Fall From Favor, which I don't run because I don't support the Monarch mechanic. But yes, this is good. I wish the bin effect was just draw a card without the payment, as it makes the card that much harder to assess on first blush. For such a simple effect, this card it a lot of words.

Even so, I likely would've included it anyways if not for Gadwick's First Duel getting spoiled like 10 minutes later!

I'm kind of bored by this? I'll almost certainly run it because it's strong and my playgroup will adore it and it slots perfectly in the bits and bobs deck, but I dunno, it doesn't spark joy for me.

This card sits right where I want my green creatures to be, power wise, and I don't think I will be able to resist once I see the gorgeous showcase version.

I also like this saga:

1692358053571.png

It is pretty slow, but I could see it as a way to pull ahead in big red decks.

This has gotta do something, right? Apart from look great? This set is going to be great for attrition strategies. I wonder if this + Braids, Arisen Nightmare could be a Standard deck--probably not, though. Does exciting work with Kor Skyfisher!

It's a lot of words, but I'm not sure it competes with the other one-mana find-a-land cards. I think the current "best" option is Bushwhack, and that's a lot cleaner than this. Still, any way to get Green in on the sacrifice theme is welcome.

Okay, I don't think this gets there, but look at that art!! I remember being struck by the art on Temple Thief when THB first dropped even if it wasn't my favorite, and I'm glad to see that Evyn is still going strong even if a lot of their cards kind of wind up looking the same. I love some center-light-outside-dark art and having bodies tilted 15 - 30 degrees as much as the next person, but that's why I'm so excited to see them branching out into more-vibrant colors (even if it's cribbing a little bit from other fan favorites cough cough Dominik Mayer cough cough Wylie Beckert cough)
