I see your Arc Trail, and raise you a Magus of the Tabernacle.

Of that list, I like: Thragtusk, Wurmcoil Engine, Faith's Fetters, Gideon Jura, Wurmcoil Engine, Lone Missionary, Obstinate Baloth, Lightning Helix, Carven Caryatid, Maze of Ith, Timely Reinforcements (it requires setup and intersects nicely with a lot of themes I'm pushing) I don't like: all...

General M14 RULES CHANGES ARE KILLING MAGIC, I'M GONNA QUIT

They're not better against themselves, they're better against decks without them. Being able to double Edict/double discard/whatever combination you like in the same turn with a pair of Lilianas, and taking away one of the few reliable ways of killing Geist (Phantasmal Image) makes each of them...

    Article Parnell's Aggro: Subtractive Design

Sure, but aggro also has Swords/Wargear, Skullclamp, planeswalkers (namely Elspeth/Koth), protection guys, more effective mana disruption/counterspells/discard, and so on.

    Article Parnell's Aggro: Subtractive Design

I've never really understood why aggro decks are supposed to need the help. Back when my cube was designed for power maximization, aggro was the best performing deck type (excluding some things like reanimator which were fairly rare). Aggro's trumps - cards like Sulfuric Vortex, Ankh of Mishra...

General M14 RULES CHANGES ARE KILLING MAGIC, I'M GONNA QUIT

This change makes Modern significantly worse: Liliana and Geist were two of the most obnoxious cards in the format as it is, and they just got a lot better.

General Creative thread - interesting cards/ideas/themes

This thread is for ideas you want to discuss but which don't really have a place yet, and to collate these ideas in one place so that discussion doesn't have to span multiple threads; once an idea becomes more fleshed out and worthy of its own thread, it can graduate from here. To start, fun...

    Sets [MCD] M14 previews

It looks like the Core Sets are continuing to be excellent stand-alone sets. We've only had about 1/3 of the previews (including lands) and there's already a few cards to discuss. Liliana's Reaver Creature - Zombie Deathtouch Whenever Liliana's Reaver deals combat damage to a player, that...

    Article Rethinking Red

Don't know how I forgot about Guttersnipe. Love Welder as well, though it's only really feasible in powered lists. I see Grapeshot as a more interesting Arc Lightning/Flames of the Firebrand with a much higher ceiling. Kris Mage is another good Madness enabler. Have you cast Blast of Genius...

    CML's Cube (405, polychromatic)

How much trouble do you have forming sufficiently deep assessments of new cards given your constant rotation of them (which I like in general, it just carries some obvious problems)?

Crucible and Loam are both fine if Strip Mine isn't in the equation, imo.

    Article Rethinking Red

In a lot of Cubes, Red is probably the least interesting colour: you can make a R/X aggro deck, you can sprinkle a few burn spells in your control deck, and - if your Cube supports it (and not many do...) - once in a while you can draft the Wildfire ramp deck. Meanwhile, every other colour has...

    Hannes' Novice Cube

Thundercloud Shaman seems really cool if you run enough Changelings (Shapesharer, Mirror Entity, Taurean Mauler, Chameleon Colossus, the universally beloved Changeling Berserker/Titan; Cairn Wanderer can be a really fun card to support as well). Also, two of the best Giants are omitted from that...

The Dandy Cube (Chris Taylor's Cube)

I also don't have much time for custom cards in Cube in general, but that's more because of the implementation as I've seen it tried than because I'm opposed to the idea - though I guess that's part of it too (the Custom Cube project or whatever it was that ran on SCG soured me on the idea for a...

That, and also stuff like Carnophage and Griselbrand being grouped in the same colour despite never being in the same decks.

Cloud of Faeries/Palinchron and Heartbeat of Spring/Mana Flare ought to be there as well. Burning-Tree Emissary in the same vein as the Priests.
