The best threads are the ones that get derailed on the first page and never get back on track. The artwork for the kithkin is probably my favourite. Even if the last card is unplayable dreck. Gaddock Teeg Goldmeadow Stalwart Thoughtweft Trio I played a ton of treefolk, too, but that...

    Eric Chan's Modern cube (405)

Whoa, thanks for the breakdown, Chris. I'm always honoured to be on the receiving end of one of your thorough dissections! Even with your spot-on analysis, though, you think there's any chance I can shake my image as the "guy who runs horrible all-sorcery removal that costs a million mana"...

To add to Dom's point, the other nice thing about having a relatively flat power level and abundant fixing in a cube is that you're able to pivot and change gears before you feel yourself getting trainwrecked in a draft. You might think that you want to force blue tempo in this draft, and start...

You bring up some interesting points on hosers and sideboards. I'm completely on board with you as far as disliking narrow hosers, and I've cut stuff like Celestial Purge, Deathmark and even Negate that I used to run. These cards simply aren't fun to draft or to play, and cube is all about...

    Eric Chan's Modern cube (405)

Er, no. Not exactly. The three cards you listed are at the low end of the spectrum as far as removal goes. If you were to ask me, my baseline probably looks more like: Ultimate Price Tragic Slip Crib Swap Burst Lightning Arc Trail For as much as people enjoy whining about my selection of...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Yep, at times I've splashed only three black cards in an otherwise mono-red aggro deck, with one of them being Oona's Prowler, and been very happy. Now that I look at my own list, he's probably stronger than all of red's two-drops, save for one or two. I draft the card early when I know I'm...

The Dandy Cube (Chris Taylor's Cube)

Yep, Cloudfin Raptor is pretttttttty mediocre. Now if you want a 2/2 for one, on the other hand...

    Eric Chan's Modern cube (405)

Don't you even read these forums? Shock is long gone; I'm on double Burst Lightning now. Get with the program. I actually swap between Eyeblight's Ending and Hero's Downfall, depending on my mood and the position of the moon.

Yup! ...wait, you hear complaints about black in *my* cube? Uh oh. Oh, you mean your cube, right? Does it have anything to do with the four Gravecrawlers you run? I got a lot of flak about that, and after a good long while, I had to admit it was a bit much and scale down to three.

And yet it's the second best colour in my cube. How is this possible?

As of yesterday, I run all of the commands now.. save for one. Poor red. No busted two-drop; no playable command. I'm sometimes shocked that this colour is playable - let alone good! - in my cube.

This is something I can identify with. I remember testing the Alternate Standard format that Jason invented a short while ago against Calvin, where we both had super fast aggressive decks. Every time I was on the draw, I was the control player, and played as such, removing his bodies one by one...

    Eric Chan's Modern cube (405)

Hey, it kills stuff dead, at instant speed. As much as we both love Volcanic Hammer, sometimes you just need to make a changeling baby out of something.

    Eric Chan's Modern cube (405)

Hey! I now am the proud owner of an Oppressive Rays! Crib Swap is pretty sweet. It's unconditional removal, with a very small drawback that sometimes matters, and when it does, it's delightful. It's just about the perfect power level for my cube.

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

It's hard to believe that only seven or eight (I think?) years ago, this guy was Legacy-playable. I could never get any mileage out of him in cube, though I suppose I slotted him in back during an era when the black aggro archetype in my environment was horrible.

Yup, back when I had Titans, the default best strategy was to ramp Birds of Paradise into Farseek into Inferno Titan, and then follow that up with Grave Titan. Adding large finishers and planeswalkers can easily buff midrange moreso than control. I figure that adding sweepers is the only...

Yeah, I'm one of the few who prefers the goofy, less serious art style of Lorwyn. It was a refreshing change from the Marvel comics-merged-with-fantasy style that permeates most of the modern sets nowadays. I know I'm in the minority, but I enjoy it when most of the cards in my deck depict some...

It may sound strange to say this, but as an aggro player, I love playing against Wrath of God decks. It feels like the ultimate test to measure your deck up against - the impossible wall that you have to scale, as it were. Though, as ahadabans mentions, a lost has changed in the last seven years...

At this point, people barely even remember they debuted in Lorwyn!

    General Multi-Picks

Yup. It's the reason I haven't done multi-picks, even for obvious candidates like Squadron Hawk. Unless you decrease the pack size to something like 12 or 13 cards - which then has its own set of problems - I still don't really buy the argument that some spells aren't "worth a pick but are worth...
