General The Constructed thread

Took a gander at my local modern crowd last night. Delver and burn. Delver and burn everywhere (tournament only had 14 people). So I sat staring at my copies of kor firewalker last night until I realized I should google 'kor firewalker modern' to find, lo and behold, a cfb person recently-ish popped out a red-slapping modern list. Skipped around his playlist and I'm a little giddy about volcanic fallout- I forgot that card existed despite using it for a year to slap around faerie players when I first got into constructed.

Unfortunately the video's sound doesn't work for me so I can't listen to his deck tech walkthrough, but I'm posting because I don't get the entirety of his sideboard. Why is boros charm even in the 75, much less in for a copy of path? Actual wrath of god decks? Does taking the main charm out for the fourth path, and swapping all charms for leylines sound like crazy talk?

Not taking this to serious tournaments but most people here own real lists- there are at least a couple jund, affinity, and pod players hanging around. I can finish out his list with <$10 investment, so no big loss if it ends up being bad.

Also can anyone take a shot at explaining the science behind the landbase to me? As many fetches as is reasonable simply to thin, miser's clifftop retreat over the fourth foundry for untapped magic?

Fetches aren't for thinning, they just play as Bolt Lands rather than Shock Lands. With the benefit of fetching basics later on.

I mean I know why they exist, by science I meant what looks like odd numbers to me. I guess he just went even on the mono-fetches, but 3 foundry, 1 clifftop 1 prairie? Wut? I'm guessing he's just valuing scry very hard- I don't see temples that often in modern lists but he has the full set here.

It works for me. He says he runs the miser boros charm in the main because he hasn't thought of a better card. The sb boros charms are for "when you want to become a bad burn deck" and he also says they are for when you have dead cards in the main you want to board out, or get in a grindy match where you want to make things indestructible. He dosen't discuss the mana base questions, just mentions the scry is good for getting through the deck.

Everything about that explination seems loose

I already own everything but 3 boros reckoner and 2 shatterstorm (well I own one stormbreath and one thundermaw for cube reasons) so not much buying to do. I just want to poop on the three-quarters-of-the-field ur delver and burn decks.

Arc Trail seems loose, the deck wants SB Blood Moon and probably MD Brimaz.

Boros Charm is neat against BGx as having a way to protect a threat from Abrupt Decay is important and the 4 damage lets you win races but also kills Liliana if your board is clear.

I'm no constructed guy, but does SB Celestial Purge sound like a decent idea? Seems decent against BG and Twin at least

I'm not overly familiar with Blood Moon play- would I be ok casting {W}{W} with that land base just getting Plains, or should I switch up the fetch/basic split to be more white-favored? Like 3:1, 4:2 instead of 2:2, 3:3 (fetch:fetch, basic:basic)?

It seems like there are infinite things you can tech with the boros charm slots, I guess it's just a question of what the deck has the most trouble with? Scapeshift seems rough.

oh man. when this card was spoilt i brewed up a doran + treefolk harbinger + lingering souls deck with this as a kind of overrun for retards. of course vizkopa guildmage came out in the same set so i ended up going with that, but the best part of the doran deck was its unbelievably clever name "Defense of the Ancients." I am awesome

Beastmaster is fine as a two-of I imagine. Never hurts to draw more cards. Also, it's Triumph of Ferocity on a stick, sort of. That's got to be solid.
