    Card/Deck Prison in Cube

I like a lot of that raveborn. It seems like you have prison pieces, but its a multi-card combo to be able to "lock" someone, and even than the lock is disruptable. oversold cemetery is certainly a card that I've overlooked, and it seems like an interesting engine card--it reminds me a bit of...

    Card/Deck Prison in Cube

Honestly, I'm starting to wonder if hippie is not a much better cube card that I've given it credit for. Most of black's hand disruption kind of sucks in cube, and hippie seems like its at a reasonble point: 3cc recurring discard. As long as your format isn't too fast, it seems like a decent...

    The Penny Pincher Cube (360)

I think strong flash creatures like teferi, mage of zhalfir, powerful instant speed x spells (stroke of genius and blue sun's zenith), or instant speed removal like silence the believers. The best unboard mana sink I think of is Ambassador Laquatus, though mindshrieker could be fun.

    Card/Deck Prison in Cube

Yeah, I think land destruction should count. That theme is really unpopular though everytime I bring it up. Another card that works well with the blink riders theme is invader parasite. Petravark is another card thats maybe a little bit more fair since you can kill it to get the land back...

I meant more in the sense that they are both situational hate cards that cantrip for those times when they are dead. I just felt that it was a better argument by analogy than pithing needle; but you're certaintly free to run it if you like those types of cards. Anyways though, this set has...

    Card/Deck Prison in Cube

Following in the footsteps of Safra's combo thread, I wanted to get an idea from people about the role that they feel prison archetypes play in cube (if any), and what form they should take. I've seen a few people both on this board and elsewhere say that they like prison, and that they feel...

    The Penny Pincher Cube (360)

Yeah, its intriguing because it recreates the feel of mana drain. Unfortunately, mana drain guarantees you the mana on your next main phase, while rewind requires you use it on the phase you countered the spell. While this seems like a really spectacular way to punish people for poor spell...

I assume meddler is probably too expensive for a lot of people to hold mana up for in these formats. If I start adding rewinds he might be a decent card to run in a draw-go style deck though.

General combo in cube: thoughts on the "showdown turn"

This is probably pretty academic for most people, but if you want a combo dredge feel: Crypt of Agadeem fatestitcher Run whatever self-mill is competitive in the format, fill up the graveyard, make a ton of mana and win.

    General The Card Art Thread

Has such a spooky Lovecraftian feel to it. Makes me think of At the Mountains of Madness. "He said 'Dance for me,' and he said, 'You are too beautiful for the wind To pick at, or the sun to burn.' He said 'I'm a poor tattered thing, but not unkind To the sad dancer and the dancing dead."...

    Sets [ORI] Magic Origins Spoilers

No one loves vigor, hydra broodmaster, or cloudthresher anymore? There is also bane of progress if you have the artifact/enchantment count. I always find these gaps in the print run interesting: there are quite a few good low power green sixes. At 7 you have pelakka wurm, which I quite like...

    General Removal by the Numbers

I guess we'll have to wait until his follow-up article, as I have a bunch of questions. One thing that seems strange to me (though perhaps is a necessary evil) is that he dosen't take into account the nature of the format when assessing effectiveness. Silent departure was first pickable in...

    General Removal by the Numbers

This is really weird. He has 20% removal as the average, which he says is an as-fan of 3 per pack. He also says that every player will get about 9 removal spells on average per draft (which is a large number) but concedes that only 3-5 of them will be good removal spells. I think when we had...

    The Sink Cube

Bouncelands and multiple copies of rewind? If you want people to have to use their mana efficently every turn, you probably also want a fair amount of pressure.

General combo in cube: thoughts on the "showdown turn"

Yeah, I've been experimenting with some of the ideas you've suggested, so hopefully I will have some feedback. I'm glad you noted the thoughtseize drop off. Even two mana spells have either not been impactful enough for me, or just cards I detest (hymn). Thankfully, with a slower format, I can...

    Sets [ORI] Magic Origins Spoilers

Yeah, I'm going to join the renown hate club. The cards look like terrible mid to late game draws against a developed board, are unduly punished by being on the draw, and are just idiots unless they connect. I could see 1cc ones being playable, 2cc depending on the cube, but 3cc+ seem unplayable...

    The Penny Pincher Cube (360)

Modin, that deck looks insane. Though speaking of familiar decks, I really want to move aggressively to explore combo disruption. Since the format isn't particularly condensed, I can seriously ramp up the impact level of some of the discard effects. Nightmare void and persecute were great...
