Temur Sabertooth was disappointing for me but only because I found it very hard to keep at least two or three dudes on the board. Need to draft with it more. Probably in a proper drafting set up, as this guy from Seattle named Mike seems to think we should draft two packs of FRF, one pack of KTK, and start with KTK first.

So basically, he's a fucking criminal.

Shu Yun is the best motherfucker since fucking mothers was even conceived as an idea. He's everything you kind of wanted Dragon-Style Twins to be, but better. Valorous Stance is solid.

Other cards I faced or played in Mike's brilliant piss draft:

-Archfiend of "Kill everything but two dudes": he was solid. I was on the receiving end. Seemed pretty fair. Maybe too fair for some, but probably not all.

-Hooded Assassin: mostly just Thrill-Kill's shitty brother.

-Pressure Point: Surprisingly solid. White Ice is an infinitely better name, though. I'm gonna run it.

-Mistfire Adept: It's the goat's oats.

-Sandsteppe Outcast: Seems possibly good enough for cube.

Side note: if you draft Temur & have to choose between the FRF izzet common or the simic one, the simic one is almost always better. Period.

cmon dude give us card tags and tell what the hell you're talking about in the last two cards.

Tasigur is sweet, and get em now. He's seems to be living up to the modern hype machine and is likely to see eternal play.
Alesha is awesome, don't run it with hornet queen. Also don't run hornet queen, you'll be happier overall.

I'm excited for valerous stance since it's a removal spell that you don't board out vs control, which is super nice. Also it's a white removal spell that isnt a goddamn enchantment, so young pyromancer doesn't cry salty tears.
I'm gonna try monastary seige. I'm excited for the frost titan mode, and more looting = more awesomeness, so bonus

what is this guy's last name. describe him immediately

Name is Michael Grimley. He's okay. I preferred the old card gaming salesguy they had cuz he was a personal friend and a pretty cool guy. Mike's okay but he's no Logan(old clerk). Kind of husky, I'll get a picture of him. I asked if he knew a "CML", he said it didn't ring a bell.

Cards that have worked out so far:

Cards that didn't work out:

The jury is still out on:

Temporal Trespass was awesome every time I saw it cast, but I obviously didn't see all the times it got stuck in someone's hand rotting away.

How do you not like Abzan Buttmaster? I love him!

I'd like to hear more about Humble Defector. It's a bummer that Soulfire Grand Master didn't pan out. It seems like it should be strong enough.

Humble defector was treated as a jank fun card by my players, and never activated unless the owner was super desperate or looking for a point of burn or something.

Grand master is weird. It plays best in big-mana decks that would want to capsize lock eventually, and in some lists infinite 5-mana unsummon is just devastating. The lifelink clause is so narrow compared to a million other white twos that it may as well not exist. Otherwise LIGHTNING HELIX GAIN SIX *beat drops*

Shu Yun destroyed my latest draft but I think that's very list-dependent. I may have made a mistake.

He's totally sweet with any sacrifice outlet, any blink shenanigans, and even sometimes used completely normally trading back and forth for more cards. And sometimes he's just a piker, which can be good enough. You can recur him with Reveillark and Alesha. He might be my favorite card in the whole set.

Is Soulfire REALLY that bad? I think she reads fine. Not "zomg so mythic so brokennn", but definitely solid. Like a strictly better Izzet Guildmage.

I didn't even know Izzet Guildmage was a thing, and I don't even think Soulfire GM is strictly better- forking and buying back are pretty different.

There was some ninja discussion about how people hated re-casting their creatures, and at a cumbersome {2}{U/R}{U/R} SGM doesn't get the job done quickly. If you like Capsize-lock gameplay (Reaching a critical mass of mana then re-casting the same spell repeatedly as your main strategy) then you'll probably LOVE SGM but I hate it so I didn't really find the card that fun. A 2/2 lifelink for {1}{W} with some other text isn't embarrassing, so if your white 2s could use a makeover it's not the worst thing in the world to test.

I meant Nivix guildmage, I think. Bah, all I know is I think it is fine and getting buyback for everything seems fine on a 2/2 beater. The lifelink for burn helps a little, too.

I think I might be fine with that since it does require stone work.

Also, I'm guessing you don't know Mike, CML?

PS: I need a good excuse to fly from boston to seattle some time. Anyone got any ideas?

I need a good reason to go for about a weekend. Got a few reasons I want to go. CML's cube, some friends who live out there now, this webcam chick who's been threatening me to visit her if I'm ever out there...and cuz Seattle seems like a cool place. I also hear they have the world's biggest fleas.

I visited Seattle like 8 years ago and had a great time. I remember the EMP Museum being sweet. They had several of Jimi Hendrix's smashed guitars on display.

If you enjoy salmon, Seattle had some of the best salmon dishes I've ever had.

I also remember it being fucking impossible to get a slice of pizza. And someone had replaced all of the Dunkin' Donuts with Starbucks.

Sure, I'd be happy to host you sometime in early march ideally?

The pizza scene here is a little dismal but just have a curry or vietnamese sandwich or something, the food here is tied for the best in America with, well, every West-Coast city
