Sets (MID) Innistrad: Midnight Hunt

They sure seem to put the pedal to the metal on two-drops for this set!

I have a somewhat unhealthy relationship with LftL, and got pretty excited when I saw this, but it's probably a trap...

I... hmm. I like this, but am not sure how fast it will start gaining counters in the average game. Also "one or more" makes huge blasts of counters from something like LftL not a thing (though it would still be two counters per usage).

re the green spirit, i like the idea, but think this is gonna be a LOT harder to make big than Pelt Collector which i’m already not running

Do spells with retrace "leave the graveyard" when you retrace them? Yes, right? That would make flame jab pretty "combo-y" with Willow Geist
I'm pretty sure they do, and I have cubed raven's crime in the past (I told you the relationship is unhealthy). I think willow geist's biggest problem is narrowness. It realistically only goes in one deck. The green growers are usually less picking about how they grow.

A playable green one drop for my graveyard cube is something I've been dying for...this can get out of hand pretty quick

Ugh, I've been doing a good job staying away, but...

I'm In This Picture, And I Don't Like It.

With the influx of Vampires with this set and presumably the next Innistrad set, I'm pleased to be able to further differentiate the different flavors of Aggro in my environment.
Knight of the Ebon Legion's a Vampire!? Okay, have to agree after Crimson Vow I may need to reconsider what BR looks like. May need to reconsider Falkenrath Gorger I've been considering adding more discard shenanigans, may Madness Aggro with a Vampire Subtheme can get there.
You can expect me to do a deep dive post on Vampires at some point. My cube's the perfect home for it, so I'll have to.
So many efficient low-drops
So many mana sinks

Fuck. The protection is really strong. It had me in the first half.

I think if you're mid powered, this could be pretty good. A couple counters makes it a solid dude. It's maybe a bit too inconsistent, though.

Is this kinda bad? It's a BR rare, so I'm wanting to like it... but don't.

Wish it returned the battlefield one to hand. That'd maybe be something. Or if the caster got all the choices. Doesn't feel rare as is, but maybe it's annoying in retail at uncommon.

These kinds of triggers make me wish for more Spectacle and Bloodthirst. Not too bad of an attacker early, throw it away later for your Spectacle card is cute. Cool art.

There's the 2 drop with drip, too. Just not a lot going around. I'm hopeful the following set will reinforce this one.

It'll be interesting to piece together Vampire Madness Bloodthirst Spectacle Lifegain Tribal.

That's awesome. Madness enabler and payoff in one, sign me up.
It reminds me a lot of Champion of wits. It has a more useful body up front and is lower power, but more affordable, the second go around. I think the upside for this one is that it goes in more decks. This could go in an aggressively slanted madness deck or a slower midrange shell. Champion of wits is only blocking, and you want the expectation of getting to 7 mana in at least some games.

This thing is AWESOME. Even if you don't run a lands theme, every fetchland, milled land, or pitched land is a counter. This thing can get big fast and can protect itself with its self-bounce.

Now if you DO run a lands theme, this thing is life from the loam 2!! In some ways its even better than LftL, because it doesn't tie up your draw step, can be used more than once per turn without draw shenanigans, and can act as a finisher in its own right. This set is delivering!

very cautiously optimistic about this card. all of the effects are very cool and desirable for me, i’m just a little sketchy about the base rate… i guess the floor is “3/3 trample, when it dies get 3 fetches from your yard?”
that’s…. pretty good! i think this one is gonna finally be the card that replaces Edric for me.

Yeah it has a very respectable floor, and in a fetch-heavy environment has a decent chance of attacking the first time as a 4/4 trample, maybe even 5/5 with discard shenanigans like chart a course etc.

I din't think about the fact that it gets the lands back when it dies or gets exiled. That makes it way better than I first thought! For some reason I just thought it was when it returned itself... after it got 3 counters... I guess reading the card explains the card :-D
