Thoughts on Bloodrush? I like Rampager/Goblin/Slaughterhorn because you can play them as creatures without feeling totally embarrassed about it, but idk if they're worthwhile.

i like it a lot. the ogre is hilarious fu CT

?

If Thunderblade Charge were an instant, I think I'd be on board. Re-usable burn is powerful even at 5 mana. But the sorcery speed on first use sort of blows for three mana and RR. I've considered this card before though. It's just we have SO MUCH burn to choose from. Anyone ever use this? Maybe it's better than I think.

I know I'm late to the party, but.. is this guy just a really bad Ninja of the Deep Hours? I'm not sure if there are common ways to tap and untap him in cube, other than going through the red zone, which he's not particularly well-equipped to do.

I don't know if Pain Seer is worse than Ninja or not(probably is), but it is a good comparison.

I think I may errata Thunderblade Charge to 1R and run it. I don't like strictly better or worse spells very much, so I refuse to run Volcanic Hammer alongside Searing Spear, but this would fit nicely.

Convoke makes all the inspired guys a bit better. Unfortunately it's one-shot and there's only like one or two good Convoke spells that I'm aware of. Paradise Mantle? Okay, I'll admit, I like Pain Seer in general and have thought for a long time how to make him good in a constructed deck and I haven't found a good answer. If you can't make it good in non-competitive constructed it's probably never going to work in something like draft.

I have not used him yet but I just added him myself. For what it's worth, I think he is going to play better than ninja (in that he will draw more cards on average - I rarely get more than one card out of ninja). Black is pretty good at removing blockers (much better than blue), so I think he will be able to swing more often than you might expect. I also can't wait to drop a herald of torment on him turn 3 because that is going to be SWEET.

Well, you don't need to tempo yourself and he's in a better attacking color...
Ninja's not better certainly

Yeah, there's no way he's better than Ninja. Ninja draws you cards right away on turn two. This guy doesn't draw until turn four (!!), barring shenanigans.

Jason, how did you know I do exactly that? Are you spying on me?

The instructions are basically printed on the card. You're not special Eric.

I just mean not strictly so :p
also blacks 2 drop slot is sorely lacking.

Speaking of the gaping hole at the black 2 drop spot... what do you guys think of
?
Seems really annoying, but I like the discard outlet. I fully push graveyard synergy.

He's good. Not overpowering, solid.

Boring as hell to play with though.
"So what are you gonna do this turn?"
"Well, I was thinking I'd play legacy merfolk without any of the counterspells."

Pack Rat has nice niche and fits lots of decks, but I find him dull to play with. The skeleton has a very different niche that's more restrictive, but the decks are more interesting.

Personally, I have played both and may play either in the future, but currently only play the skeleton.

Skeleton can be slow from the limited play I've had with him. The ETB tapped thing hurts his value a bit. Pack Rat has wonderful flavor (once you get one rat, they tend to multiply and then they are almost impossible to get rid of), though I agree the card is a little boring to play with or against.

Is pack rat not the giant bomb he was in retail limited?
i actually had this convo on skype
[4/30/2014 23:13:08] anotak: i wonder what its like to cube w/ pack rat
[4/30/2014 23:13:19] anotak: it seems like it would just get out of hand too easily to be fun but i could be wrong
[4/30/2014 23:13:43] Lucas Childs: I think it would be a pretty exclusive ability
[4/30/2014 23:13:50] Lucas Childs: and that is what would be cool about it
[4/30/2014 23:14:10] anotak: i guess what mades it really abusive in standard is t1 thoughtseize your answer t2 pack rat
[4/30/2014 23:14:20] anotak: and bile blight has helped a lot to keep it down more recently
[4/30/2014 23:14:37] Lucas Childs: oh wait pack rat
[4/30/2014 23:14:44] Lucas Childs: lots of people cube pack rat
[4/30/2014 23:14:47] anotak: http://magiccards.info/scans/en/od/2.jpg check out this bad card
[4/30/2014 23:14:57] anotak: yeah i know
[4/30/2014 23:15:03] anotak: ive just never tried it
[4/30/2014 23:15:21] Lucas Childs: it's a fair card, kinda hard to play against at times, I like it because it involves discarding, but I dislike it because I am bad at complex maths
[4/30/2014 23:15:36] anotak: its fair in some environs
[4/30/2014 23:16:00] Lucas Childs: I think one neat thing people enjoy in cube is that it is usually a break from the monotony of standard dynamics
[4/30/2014 23:16:06] anotak: yeah
[4/30/2014 23:16:14] anotak: i try not to make my cube play like standard
[4/30/2014 23:16:24] Lucas Childs: but I love bestow so w/e
[4/30/2014 23:16:24] anotak: unless you meant the actual meaning of the word standard

- cut a bunch of unrelated custom card chat -

[4/30/2014 23:41:39] Eric Chan: pack rat is kinda low powered here, if anything.. it doesn't really scare anyone
[4/30/2014 23:41:53] Eric Chan: it's pretty mana intensive
[4/30/2014 23:49:57] Lucas Childs: I've had some pretty good games with them
[4/30/2014 23:50:46] Lucas Childs: it really takes over the game with a walker because you are spending your mana and doing progressive things while generating some other dopey advantage
[4/30/2014 23:51:12] Lucas Childs: plus half of planeswalkers like effecting your combat
